Drumming
For two years, I held the title of #1 youth drummer in Colorado Springs. Drumming was my ultimate outlet, and I can’t wait for the day when, as a homeowner, I can set up my kit and play again. My first job at 16 was at a music studio, where I balanced roles as both receptionist and a substitute teacher for drums and piano. Though I initially faced stage fright, I’m proud to have overcome it.
In competitions, we each had 2-4 minutes to perform an original solo aimed at hyping up the crowd and impressing judges with our technical skills. Then, the real test: a random piece of sheet music placed in front of us. With just one minute to review it, we’d perform the entire piece on the spot, aiming for precision and zero mistakes. It was a thrill and challenge that pushed my skills to the next level!
I was selected to perform a drum solo for my entire high school as part of the senior celebration, but unfortunately, when I was transporting my drum set, the double bass pedal snapped in half. More cowbell, please!
